The Transylvanian Saxons (Siebenbürger Sachsen) are a people of Germanic ethnicity, stout-hearted and proud, who came to this region in the 12th and 13th centuries to defend the south-eastern border of the Kingdom of Hungary. They have left their imprint not only on the architecture of buildings and on the organisation of communities in this part of Europe, but also on furniture making.
